Dynarex Expands New Portable Respiratory Line

MONTVALE, New Jersey—Dynarex Corporation, a durable medical equipment (DME) and disposable medical products company, announced it is adding a new suite of portable products to its innovative respiratory therapy line—Dynarex Resp-O2. The extensive line now includes transportable solutions for oxygen delivery, suction care, nebulization therapy and more.

Key Features

Dynarex Resp-O2 has expanded to include a range of offerings aimed at enhancing portability and convenience for users. The 50 PSI Compressor, for instance, offers high-pressure compressed air delivery in a lightweight and durable design for high-flow therapy, enabling extended use without sacrificing performance. The Homecare Portable Suction Unit provides users with a compact and versatile option for suctioning at home or on the go, complete with a rechargeable battery for added adaptability.

"Our goal with these new products is to empower patients to maintain their respiratory health wherever they go," said Zuckerman. "Whether it's traveling or simply moving around their home, our portable oxygen therapy solutions are designed to support their needs with ease."

Medtrade New Product Pavilion Award Winners Chosen

DALLAS—A brightly colored collection of cloth walker covers took the top award at Medtrade's New Product Pavilion on March 28.

The Provider's Choice Gold Award went to the Jover Walker Cover by Jover, a new entry into the market. The owners said they developed the cheerful walker accessory to convince senior family members to use their walkers more regularly, and the idea caught on.

The Provider's Choice Silver Award went to Elsa, an artificial intelligence (AI) operation created by Celerity's AI. The program sits atop other billing and operations software to help home medical equipment providers save time working out insurance details and avoid unnecessary denials.

The Provider's Choice Bronze Award went to Tranquility Incontinence Products, which launched a refreshed version of it's Tranquility Premium OverNight and Premium DayTime Underwear entirely in breathable fabric to wick moisture and decrease skin issues. The lines are also in redesigned packaging and some products have introduced additional sizes up to 3x.

The New Product Pavilion, which is sponsored by HomeCare Media, features new home medical equipment and allows attendees of the show to vote on their favorites.

Ki Mobility Introduces Pediatric Sizing for Axiom Seating

STEVENS POINT, Wisconsin—Ki Mobility’s Axiom line of wheelchair seat cushions and backs are now available in pediatric sizes. The new series, Axiom for Kids, takes into account the unique positioning needs of growing children who use wheelchairs, the manufacturer said in a March 11 announcement.

“Our new range of pediatric cushions and backs are truly designed for children,” the announcement said. “From material selection to size, shape and growth ability—all elements have been designed for the smallest growing riders.”

Ki Mobility described the cushions and backs as “science-based seating solutions that promote better clinical outcomes and meet the demands of your child’s day.”

Axiom cushions are available in two models

Axiom for Kids’ seat cushion lineup includes two models: Positioning (PXP) and Skin Protection & Positioning (PXSP). For both cushion lines, seat widths are available from 8 inches to 16 inches, and seat depths are available from 8 inches to 18 inches.

The PXP (HCPCS coded E2605) incorporates a stable base to support kids through their many adventures.

“Medial and lateral stability, combined with taller positioning features, ensure optimal postural support and stability,” Ki Mobility said, adding that the PXP also includes “Axiom’s surface tension-reducing hexagonal shapes, softer foam, and science-based contoured shape design that changes with cushion width.”

The PXSP (HCPCS coded E2607) includes the positioning elements seen in the PXP, plus a dual-density foam base for added skin protection and positioning. The top foam layer increases immersion and provides a wider base of support for the trochanters. The second layer of foam provides optimal structural support.

Seat covers are designed to be durable and breathable, with the ability to “withstand spills and accidents while simultaneously allowing optimal immersion into the foam base,” the announcement said. “An extra cover is included with each cushion order for your convenience.”

Seat cushion accessories include additional covers (in black, blue or purple), and a solid seat insert.

Axiom backs designed for growability

The Axiom for Kids back was designed to fit wheelchairs +/- 1 inch to facilitate width and growth adjustments. “Built-in hardware depth adjustment of 2 inches makes optimal back placement relative to seat depth convenient,” Ki Mobility said. “Smart shell design also provides individual lateral adjustment slots so you don’t have to worry about interferences with back hardware during setup.”

The backs offer fixed, adjustable contoured and swing-away lateral options so seating teams can choose the optimal support. Back hardware comes “standard with a built-in lockout latch to prevent everything from backpacks to curious fingers from accidentally disengaging the backrest,” Ki Mobility said.

Axiom for Kids backs are available in three models: Posterior Lateral Back (PXPL), E2615; Adjustable Lateral Back (PXAL), E2291 and Adjustable Lateral Back with Contour Laterals (PXALCL), E2293. Options include various head supports and pads; lateral supports; a lumbar pad; a privacy flap; and posture supports, including chest, anterior trunk supports, shoulder guides and dynamic supports.

The back’s cover is breathable, wipeable and remains cool to the touch. The cover can be removed for cleaning. “Lighter-density foam in the cushion is designed for lighter users while also providing support,” the manufacturer said.

The backs are available in 10- to 16-inch widths and 10- to 18-inch depths. Matte and gloss finishes in an array of colors are available.

CMS Decides on CRT Seat Elevation

WASHINGTON—The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released their final coding and payment determination for seat elevation systems, reports the National Coalition for Assistive and Rehab Technology (NCART). The full decision can be read here. Below are some of the highlights NCART shared:

CMS has established one code for complex rehab (CRT): E2298, “Complex rehabilitative power wheelchair accessory, power seat elevation system, any type:
CMS delayed a decision on K0830 and K0831; local fee schedule amounts would be calculated by the DME MACs for use in paying claims for any covered items.
The fee schedule amount for E2298 is $2,000.34
The new codes and fee schedules will be effective April 1, 2024.

NCART is conducting further analysis of the decision and will have a more detailed report to share early next week.

The organization had asked CMS to replace code E2300 and establish two new codes for power seating systems up to 300 pounds and for users 301 pounds and greater.

Edgepark Adds Fully Automated Insulin Delivery System to Diabetes Portfolio

TWINSBURG, Ohio—Edgepark announced it is offering the newly launched Beta Bionics iLet Bionic Pancreas fully automated insulin delivery (AID) system as part of its comprehensive diabetes management solution portfolio. The iLet does not require carbohydrate counting* and fully automates 100% of insulin doses. Designed for anyone six years of age and older living with Type 1 diabetes, it eliminates the traditional manual work previously involved with using an insulin pump.

“It’s deeply critical that our customers have access to the latest innovations that remove complexities to care, especially when managing a disease as complicated as Type 1 diabetes,” said Anthony Alvarez, senior vice president and general manager, Edgepark. “Edgepark is thrilled to offer the iLet as a first-of-its-kind device that uses automation to make diabetes simpler to navigate.”

The iLet automatically delivers basal, correction and meal doses based on a user’s own real-time health data, providing more freedom to the user in their daily life. The system also learns a user’s personal trends to adjust insulin, including how many carbs are normally consumed during meals, corrections needed and more.

A More Proactive, Simple Approach to Diabetes Management

Debra Brown, a clinical diabetes educator for Edgepark, said removing the need to carb count* or input extensive background data creates a more proactive approach to a patient’s diabetes management plan.

“Carb counting alone is very challenging and can be burdensome for patients,” said Brown. “The benefits to not having to count carbs and input programmed basal rates, insulin-to-carbohydrate ratios or insulin sensitivity factors can have a significant positive impact to a patient or caregiver.”

Introduced initially in 2017, AID systems automatically determine insulin requirements and adjust insulin delivery based on glucose numbers provided by a connected continuous glucose monitor, also known as a CGM. For example, the iLet is compatible with the Dexcom G6 and G7 CGMs, both available through Edgepark.

While AID systems are not totally hands-off, iLet users only have to input their current weight and, at mealtimes, indicate if their meal had a normal amount of carbs for them—or less or more than usual. As with any insulin delivery system, users must also be able to load the insulin pump with insulin, insert an infusion set and troubleshoot when challenges occur.
